You know you want to monetize knowledge you already have by writing a book, but you’re not exactly sure how—especially with the 1,000 other things on your plate right now. One option to consider is whether you want to hire a ghostwriter. If you’re on the fence about whether or not outsourcing is for you, I’ve come up with three focused questions to help you make the best decision for you.
Question 1: Are you a decent writer?
Writing certainly isn’t everyone’s strength, and you may find after spending a couple of hours at the computer that you’ve only managed to trickle out a few mediocre sentences. This is okay! Don’t beat yourself up—and don’t let your writing skills stand in the way of your growth. Living with dyslexia has been a real challenge for me. But I’ve developed a method for sharing my ideas, and my team is able to put those ideas into words. When you hire a ghostwriter, you’re connecting with someone that is professionally trained to help people in these types of situations!
Question 2: Do you have time to write a book?
If you already feel like you need two (or three!) of you to manage life and work, and that there are never enough hours in the day, writing a book isn’t a task you want to take on. Take an honest look at just how much time you have available to put towards writing a book. If you keep trying to set aside even 30 minutes a day, and you keep failing, you probably don’t have enough time to truly complete the process. Hire a ghostwriter, and implement a time management system that works for you. You’ll need a great system with all the new business you’ll have when your book launches!
Question 3: Do you have a clear vision for your book?
Even if you have the time and feel comfortable writing, you might still need to hire a ghostwriter. Organizing your thoughts and sharing your thoughts in a way readers will understand isn’t always easy. If you have an outline, parts of a draft or even just clear goals, a professional ghostwriter can step in and take your book from possible to actual. When you hire a ghostwriter, they bring your vision to life by writing how you want to write.
Hiring a ghostwriter isn’t cheating; it’s a stepping stone to making your business goal a reality. Da Vinci delegated brush strokes to other painters, and you can delegate your book in the same way, too. If you have neither the talent nor the time to write your own, but you do have a clear vision for your book, get off your duff, hire a ghostwriter, and make your book happen!
Next week, I’ll be sharing tips on how to hire the right ghostwriter for your project!
Sean, Im still stuffing around. I feel I need support. I currently write short articles for a magazine however I know there are several books that need to be written about the extra ordinary life I have experienced. Since much of it is pretty yuk, I fear not being able to cope as the memories are relived/recorded hence my procrastinating. I tried creating a writing support group. It did not last more than 2 meetings. I have enrolled in a writing course with James Patterson…again, procrastination. Do you have some suggestions? Cheers. Roz
