Are you an expert? This is a great question, and one that I talked about on last week’s Roach Rants. (I’ll give you a hint, the answer is probably yes!) But what if you know you’re an expert, and you’re still unsure if you should create a business around that expertise? That’s the question I’m answering today, and I have seven reasons why the answer is also YES!

Reason #1: Get others excited!
Passion is—and should be—infectious. When you’re excited about your product, your emotions are genuine, and your authenticity is obvious. Potential customers respond to sincerity and will want to work with you!
Reason #2: Monetize your hard-earned knowledge
When you know more about a topic than someone else, you’re an expert relative to their experience, and you have something to offer them. All the work you put into learning your passion will pay off, because your knowledge and skills are your product, and it’s time to get paid!
Reason #3: Attract higher quality clients
Even when you’ve properly chosen your niche, you need to stand out in the marketplace. When you position yourself as an expert, you create credibility and build a reputation for providing excellent, actionable information. Opportunities to attract new, and probably better, clients will be available to you.

Reason #4: Help others by sharing your knowledge
You have the know-how, and your customers need to know! Whether you publish a book, Sell From Stage or work one-on-one, watching your clients grow and succeed because of the knowledge you share with them will be rewarding in a way you may never have experienced before. Their accomplishments are your accomplishments!
Reason #5: Collaborate on meaningful work
Establishing yourself as an expert in your niche will draw the attention of not just potential customers but also from other experts. Your goal is to sell, but as your reputation grows, collaborating with others in your field is a natural progression. You’ll have opportunities to continue learning, and who knows? You might just get to work with one of your heroes!
Reason #6: Increase your income
At the end of the day, the desire for success is what fuels entrepreneurs. When you’re selling and promoting your expertise effectively, you add value to your business. Offer additional services, create evergreen products and raise your rates. Your income will increase, and you’ll be happier!
Reason #7: Build a business doing what you love
“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life,” the saying goes. The intersection of personal and professional happiness is something we all want, and when you position yourself as an expert, you get to build a business doing what you love.
If you’re not sharing (and selling) your expertise, all that knowledge and ability begins and ends with you. There are a lot of smart people in the business world who never get off the starting line because they fail to translate their expertise to marketability. Don’t let that be you!
