When you do what you love, there’s a lot of satisfaction in your work life. Chances are, you chose your niche—at least in part—because of your enthusiasm for making, selling and talking about your product. And that can make all the difference when building a business. There are many reasons why you should do what you love, but this week, I’m going to talk about three of the most important.
It’s a Labor of Love
Building up and maintaining a business is hard work. You’ll need dedication, commitment and long hours to be successful. If you love what you’re doing, though, the sacrifice will be much easier. Keeping your work close to your heart is a natural remedy to entrepreneurial fatigue. You’ll still be doing the hard work, but fueled by a purpose you believe in.
Are You Personally Invested?
The road to success is never without bumps. When building a business—particularly in those early months and years—it’s normal for your faith to sometimes be shaken—in your vision, your business and even yourself. When you face those inevitable challenges, staying dedicated to the dream is easier if you’re personally invested. Caring helps you persevere.
Stay Current in Your Niche
One of the first lessons any entrepreneur learns is that they can’t do it all. Whenever possible, you need to delegate to others those tasks where you’re not your strongest or have little or no interest. What you can’t delegate, though (at least at first) is the heart of your business. You have to stay involved in the critical areas, and stay up-to-date with the technological and social developments in what is likely a fast-changing environment. If aren’t interested in what you’re selling, that will be your toughest challenge. With so much vying for your attention, blocking off time to take a deep dive into a boring topic will seem like an insurmountable obstacle. But if you truly care about your business, you’ll make the time.
I truly believe you need to do what you love to succeed. But next week, I’m going to totally contradict myself. Keep an eye out for it!
