Have you ever noticed how people tend to take on some of the emotions of the people that they associate with? When we talk or interact with people our attitude is like a mirror, reflecting some of that attitude back.

You see this almost every day. Someone will talk about the great day they are having and how much they are enjoying life and others will respond in a similar way. On the other hand, if a person starts talking about how bad a day or week they are having, others will follow suit and talk about their own ills.

It is true that most people spend much more time talking about the negatives than the positives. If you ask a friend how they are doing and the response is positive, it is most likely to be something brief like ‘I’m okay, how are you’? On the other hand, if it is a negative response you are quite likely to hear about how bad their back was when they got up this morning, how painful those two hip operations were 10 years ago and how the government is ruining the country!

Always remember that the people we attract often reflect our own attitude. Highly motivated people tend to attract other highly motivated people and those with no motivation or a gloomy outlook on life tend to attract others who have the same gloomy outlook.

If you’ve never been highly motivated or one of those live wires that lights up a room, try it for just a week or two. You’ll be amazed at how much difference it can make to you and the people around you.

You’ve probably heard the phrase ‘be your own boss’ plenty of times but have you ever thought about what it really means?

On the surface your first thought might be that it simply means… go out and build your own business. That’s a good start but it’s really important to look a lot deeper than that. You will never really be your own boss if:

You think the government is holding you back

You think taxes are killing your business

You think you are too young

You think you are too old

These are all things that you can’t control. You can’t just go and change the government or taxes and you certainly can’t just wind the clock back 10 years. To really be your own boss you need to work on the things that you CAN control.

I often talk about things you can do that are simple… but not necessarily easy. Simple means it is something you can do. If you don’t already know how to do it then you just need to learn. Learning and becoming more skilled isn’t always easy – because it requires you to get up off the couch (or your duff!) and commit some time and energy.

The bottom line is that the biggest walls and barriers that lie between you and your goals were put there by you. We all have mountains that we need to climb at various stages throughout our lives and the truth is that if you don’t start climbing know, you will most likely still be standing at the bottom of that very same mountain in five or ten years time!
