Be Your Own Boss

You’ve probably heard the phrase ‘be your own boss’ plenty of times but have you ever thought about what it really means?

On the surface your first thought might be that it simply means… go out and build your own business. That’s a good start but it’s really important to look a lot deeper than that. You will never really be your own boss if:

  • You think the government is holding you back
  • You think taxes are killing your business
  • You think you are too young
  • You think you are too old

These are all things that you can’t control. You can’t just go and change the government or taxes and you certainly can’t just wind the clock back 10 years. To really be your own boss you need to work on the things that you CAN control.

I often talk about things you can do that are simple… but not necessarily easy. Simple means it is something you can do. If you don’t already know how to do it then you just need to learn. Learning and becoming more skilled isn’t always easy – because it requires you to get up off the couch (or your duff!) and commit some time and energy.

The bottom line is that the biggest walls and barriers that lie between you and your goals were put there by you. We all have mountains that we need to climb at various stages throughout our lives and the truth is that if you don’t start climbing know, you will most likely still be standing at the bottom of that very same mountain in five or ten years time!
